The Gentlemen season two hit different. Theo James’ character Eddie goes from trying to ignore this whole crime world to actually understanding it, and his clothes track that shift. The plaid blazer is sharp without trying too hard. Bobby Glass wears that suede leather jacket and it looks lived-in, which is the point. These aren’t costumes. They’re pieces that work because the show’s costume department actually paid attention to how people dress when money’s involved but they’re not trying to advertise it.
Susie Glass’s leather jacket is the one everyone notices. Black, fitted, the kind of thing that reads as intentional without being costume-y. You can wear it to dinner, wear it around the city, wear it to work if your job allows. The leather actually breaks in if you wear it regularly. Benedetta Porcaroli’s trench coat is more formal—longer, structured—but it doesn’t require a whole outfit built around it. Throw it over jeans. That works. Eddie Horniman’s coat from season two sits in that middle space where it functions as actual outerwear but still has the tailored edge the character needs. The houndstooth pattern is the interesting choice, but it’s not so bold that it limits what you can wear underneath.
What matters is these pieces don’t scream “I’m cosplaying.” Maya Jama’s blazer is clean. Theo James’ other pieces are practical. This collection works because The Gentlemen understands that sophisticated style isn’t about making a performance out of what you’re wearing. It’s about pieces that fit, that layer well, that look better with age. You grab one of these jackets because it’s good, not because you need the character connection. The character connection is just a bonus when someone recognizes it. Most of the time you’re just wearing a solid jacket that happens to be inspired by a show you actually liked.
